A referral website
Eastern Suburbs Bathroom Renovations refers enquiries for bathroom and related renovation work. We do not perform building, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tiling or asbestos removal work ourselves.
The builder
Renovation work is carried out in partnership with Coastal Renovation Group, a licensed NSW builder. Licence and insurance details are provided on request.
Before anything starts, ask for the licence number and a certificate of currency for insurance, and check the licence yourself on the NSW Fair Trading public register. The register shows the licence holder, class, status, expiry and any disciplinary history.
The builder issues the quote, enters the contract with you, performs the work and is responsible for it. Workmanship warranties and any home building compensation cover required for the job are the builder's.
What we do not represent
We do not represent that any person or business holds any licence, qualification or insurance other than as described above, and we do not monitor insurance on an ongoing basis. Ask for current documents before work begins.
Asbestos
Many buildings in the Eastern Suburbs were built or altered before asbestos was phased out. We recommend testing before demolition for any bathroom in a building from before about 1990.
Asbestos removal requires its own licence in NSW and is carried out by a licensed asbestos removalist, not under a builder's licence. If someone proposes to demolish an older bathroom without addressing asbestos, do not proceed on that basis.
Strata, heritage and council approvals
We and the builder can explain what approvals are commonly needed for bathroom work, based on experience. We cannot grant them or promise an outcome or a timeframe.
Strata approvals are decided by your owners corporation under its by-laws. Planning and heritage approvals are decided by the relevant council — Randwick City Council, Waverley Council, Woollahra Council or the City of Sydney — or by a certifier where applicable.
